Cloudmark observed the Crush Spam attack in email SMS and social networks. Lack of protection for new sophisticated and open networks — despite rising awareness of the potential for abuse the mobile medium is still only loosely protected making it an open target for attacks. According to a recent Cloudmark survey 100 percent of the top 12 mobile operators in Europe anticipate that mobile spam volumes will rise; however 83 percent do not have a filtering system in place to protect customers. Until mobile operators secure their networks spammers will be able to capitalize on this security gap and have a virtual open door for perpetrating their attacks. “The convergence of unlimited messaging plans enhanced capabilities on mobile devices and the lack of messaging security at many carriers create a perfect opportunity for mobile spammers” said Jamie de Guerre chief technology officer at Cloudmark.

Frank Robinson owner of Advance-Tech said a computer worm is more dangerous than a computer virus because a computer worm causes different viruses. “The Conficker worm has the ability to steal bank account credit card and other financial information” Robinson said. “People don’t realize that it’s important to keep your virus protection software up-to-date. Doing this can help prevent your computer from getting the Conficker worm. “Security companies monitoring the worm have been largely successful at blocking infected machines from communicating with whoever programmed it. Robinson said one sign of a infected computer is not being able to access security Web sites such as Microsoft which issued a software update — called a “patch” — to protect computers from vulnerability but not everyone applied the patch. There are millions of people who are unprotected from the Conficker worm and this will be many users’ downfall Price said.
