US Supreme Court rejects anti-spam law

Supreme Court refused to review a Virginia anti-spam law thrown out by a lower level court. This decision means the law put into force in 2003 to stop people from deluging inboxes with bulk email violates the right to free speech as a Virginia court said in September. However experts say this decision isn’t likely to increase spam very much as other laws passed at the federal level provide some protection. Many spammers too aren’t in the United States anyway and would therefore be difficult to prosecute. Most businesses have moved towards better and better spam filters as a technological solution rather than hoping for a legal one. Under this 2003 Virginia law Jeremy Jaynes was convicted in 2004 and sentenced to nine years in prison. The Virginia Supreme Court overturned that conviction.
