Pay per e-mail system would sound the death knell for spam
Daily News & Analysis India -
According to MSNBC Internet provider Earthlink which has approximately 5 million subscribers boasts its “SpamBlocker” can eliminate spam “virtually 100%. ” The system uses the “challenge-response” technique that requests proof of identity from unknown senders. Spam-protection strategies range from small to legal to geo-political. Unfortunately neither method is universal. If a spam filter tries to block the word ‘cialis’ it also removes all legitimate e-mails containing the word ‘specialist’. In the US there are several existing and proposed legislations that are intended to fight spam among them requiring marketers to allow people to easily remove their e-mail addresses from bulk lists and banning non-existing return e-mail addresses. There’s also a movement to set up a “no-spam” registry similar to the Federal Trade Commission’s do-not-call list for telemarketers.
